Expanding market access, financial inclusion and climate-resilient livelihoods across South Sudan

Lakes, Western Bahr el Ghazal and Jonglei States

Invisible Women Inclusion Network (I-WIN)

Project overview

I-WIN is implementing a food security and livelihoods initiative to strengthen agricultural value chains and economic resilience for women and youth in selected counties across Western Bahr el Ghazal, Lakes and Jonglei States.

The project connects farmers and producer groups with quality inputs, savings and financial services, agribusiness support, extension knowledge and market actors. It also promotes climate-resilient farming and improved livestock management.

Key achievements

Input trade fairs facilitated approximately 31 metric tons of seed and other agricultural inputs. Seventy farmer groups, comprising approximately 2,120 farmers, accessed improved input markets and built connections with local suppliers.

Building resilient livelihoods

Connecting farmers with skills, services and markets

Agricultural input trade fairs linked farmer groups with agro-dealers, seed companies and cooperatives. Through a voucher-based system, participants accessed improved seeds, tools and other technologies, including groundnuts, sorghum and cowpea seed.

The project is strengthening producer organizations and agricultural businesses through training in entrepreneurship, business planning and market development. It is building links among farmers, agro-dealers, cooperatives, extension workers, off-takers and financial institutions so producers can reach input and output markets.

Village Savings and Loan Associations support savings, access to credit and household resilience. Groups and facilitators receive savings kits and training in financial literacy, record keeping and VSLA methods, with participation encouraged among women, men and youth.

Climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable land management and environmental stewardship are integrated into farmer engagement. Training also covers improved livestock management, including animal care, feeding, housing and preventive health practices suited to local conditions.

Project partners

Implemented by the Invisible Women Inclusion Network (I-WIN). The project engages farmer producer groups, cooperatives, agribusinesses, agro-dealers, extension workers and government institutions.
